Dryad by borogove13 Dryad by borogove13
Designed this guy for the ConceptArt.org character of the week challenge. Their criterion were:
*Can be male or female
*Must be 'humanoid' in shape
*Must not wear any leather, fur or other animal skin
*Must have a pair of antlers
*Must have bark for skin; no human flesh

and the general description had that they were ancient, kindly friends of nature. Usually very gentle, but can wreak havok if crossed.

I liked the idea of the antlers, and thought it'd be fun if two trees coming out of a hill were his antlers, but the rest of him is entirely underground with his body made up of interlocking root systems. I tried to color his arms and legs similarly to root vegetables like turnups and gave him a bushy beard of roots.

I like to picture some kids playing on a hill, then the trees shaking and ground rumbling, then this guy dislodges from the soil, shaking his rooty fist and shouting "You kids get offa my lawn! That itches!" before stretching, finding someplace comfy to sit, and asking them about themselves and telling them silly, slightly dirty, stories.

He does look like a tough old geezer, but you can tell he has a soft spot. The flowers are a dead giveaway. I love the rooty whiskers!
