Artist's Comments

It's been a few years since I've done anything with the Princess Bride characters, and recently I got inspired to get back into that a bit. Here's Inigo, Fezzik and Vizzini as the infamous Cicillian Crowd ('cause even then two's company, three's a crowd). Hoping to see if I can update most of my old Freshman year concepts to something cleaner, livelier and just all-around better. You can see what I was doing back then here: [link]

I like to think I'm a much better colorist and cartoonist now than I was then, so I'll be curious to see where I can go with these characters now that it's three years later.

The inspiration for this originally was to take the sequences from the book that didn't make the movie and design them as short animated pieces or comic books but with characters based on the book's descriptions more than on the movie's depictions. Those sequences are Inigo's Story, Fezzik's Story and the Zoo of Death. Lots of good writing, action, adventure and comedy in those pieces and I've wanted to see them moving for a while. Might never happen, but it's a fun excercise sometimes anyway.

Awesome! For some reason I've always loved Domino's pepperoni and beef on regular crust. It's not the best quality pizza, not the most inventive ingredients, but for some reason it reminds me of home. Now if you were making me a pizza I'd go for pesto sauce, mozzerella and fetta cheeses, shrimp and portabello mushrooms on a slightly fluffy hand tossed crust (my mom's recipe and damned if it isn't the greatest pizza IN THE WORLD!!!)

...or was I just supposed to look small and yellow and go "meep merr!"?

Thanks. With Inigo I wanted it to feel like you could pick him up by the head and wield him like a sword. My Fezzik used to just be a giant block with a goofy expression. I wanted to give him a bit more mobility. Still might need a little work on the face to make sure it'll be expressive enough to act, but I'm still pretty happy with where he's going. Vizinni I was picturing an evil, middle-aged Gerald McBoing-Boing.

Fezzik looks like he could be pretty expressive, there is a fair bit of space on his face to allow for it. I always clutter my faces too much which makes it messy when it comes to diff facial expressions. The style you used for this pic looks very animatable (is that a word?), I love it.

On a side note, when you gonna upload the rest of those bat-villains? They rocked,I wanna fave them ;)
